Monkey Bars & Overhead Play Equipment
Overhead equipment builds upper-body and grip strength like nothing else on a playground, and it stays popular with the older children who tend to walk away from traditional play structures. BDI Play Designs supplies monkey bars and overhead events in several formats: horizontal ladders in full and mini heights, overhead rings, track rides and hoop-to-hoop runs, turning bars, monkey boards, and cantilevered overhead hoops that can be added beside an existing structure. Overhead events have their own safety rules. Fall height is measured from the grip, not the deck, so an overhead run usually needs deeper surfacing than the structure it sits beside, and the use zone extends well past each end. Reach height also matters: a mini horizontal ladder sized for a five-year-old is a different product from a youth agility run, and installing the wrong one is the most common reason an overhead event goes unused. Freestanding overhead events install without touching the main structure, which makes them a straightforward upgrade for a school that needs more for its older grades.
