Montana at a Glance

Lead times

Typically 4–6 weeks for orders placed in winter and spring, and 6–8 weeks in summer and fall, our busy season. Order over the winter to have equipment on site for spring.

Free shipping on US$20,000+ (Montana only)

A Montana-exclusive offer: orders of US$20,000 or more (equipment subtotal, before tax) ship free to any Montana site, with customs brokerage covered too. U.S. import duty is already included in every BDI U.S. price.

Lifetime warranty, proven in freeze-thaw

Steel support posts and stainless-steel hardware carry a lifetime warranty against structural failure from corrosion or deterioration. The equipment is proven through Alberta winters, the same freeze-thaw cycles Montana parks face.

Supplied and installed

We design, supply, and install Montana projects, with our own crew or a local install partner we manage, depending on project size and location. One point of contact from drawings to handover.

The Border-Proximity Advantage

Most U.S. playground suppliers reach Montana at the far end of their freight network. For us it’s the opposite: Montana is the first stop south. Short freight lanes keep delivered costs down, and our equipment is built for the same Rocky Mountain freeze-thaw cycles on both sides of the border, with galvanized steel posts, powder-coat finishes, and stainless hardware. That’s why steel support posts and stainless-steel hardware carry a lifetime warranty against corrosion and deterioration.

Parks and recreation departments, school districts, churches, camps, and HOAs from Billings and Missoula to Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena, and Kalispell order complete Blue Imp and BDI play structures, shelters, and park furniture, designed, supplied, and installed by us.

Installation in Montana

Supply and install. We install Montana projects, with our own crew or a local install partner we manage, depending on project size and location. You get one point of contact from design and drawings through installation. We recommend professional installation for composite play structures, swings, and shade structures.

Prefer to install simple site amenities yourself? Benches, bike racks, and gaga ball pits bolt together with basic tools; see self-install products. A public body’s own staff are exempt from Montana contractor registration (MCA 37-45-104).

What the rules say. We are not aware of a Montana state law that requires a licensed or certified playground installer, but confirm with your city or county and your insurer. The CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook advises installing strictly to the manufacturer’s instructions and having a qualified person inspect the equipment before first use. Montana schools inspect playgrounds under the DPHHS school health rules. Public supply-and-install contracts of $25,000 or more generally fall under Montana’s prevailing-wage law, while supply-only purchases do not. Shade structures may need a local building permit.

Montana Playground Grants & Funding

These are the main grant and funding sources Montana communities use for playgrounds and park amenities. Eligibility and deadlines change, so confirm with each funder. We can supply quotes, drawings, and specifications for your application.

  • Land and Water Conservation Fund (Montana FWP)

Federal outdoor-recreation grants administered by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for state, tribal, and local governments. Requires a 50% non-federal match. As of October 2026 the next cycle is anticipated to open in summer 2027.

  • USDA Rural Development Community Facilities

Low-interest loans and grants for public bodies, nonprofits, and federally recognized tribes in rural communities of 20,000 people or fewer. Confirm recreation-project eligibility with the Montana RD office.

  • Steele-Reese Foundation

Funds tax-exempt organizations in rural Montana and Idaho communities and Native nations. Montana’s larger cities (Billings, Missoula, Great Falls, Bozeman, Butte, Helena, and Kalispell) and their suburbs are excluded. Applications open with a letter of inquiry each winter.

  • First Interstate BancSystem Foundation

Grants of $2,500 and up for 501(c)(3) organizations and units of government, recommended through a local First Interstate branch.

  • KaBOOM!

Community-built playground grants for low-income and/or special-needs communities that have no playground or an unsafe one. Availability is limited to certain cities, so check eligibility first.

  • Local community foundations

The Montana Community Foundation and its county-level affiliated foundations fund local projects, including playground renovations. Their programs are defined by service area, so start with the foundation for your county.

Montana FAQs

Why is Montana a natural fit for BDI equipment?

+

Our manufacturing facility sits in southern Alberta, roughly an hour from the Montana border. That puts us closer to most Montana communities than suppliers in other U.S. states. The proximity means short freight lanes and lead times of 4–8 weeks, and the equipment is engineered for the same freeze-thaw mountain climate Montana parks face.

How long does delivery to Montana take?

+

Lead times are typically 4–6 weeks for orders placed in winter and spring, and 6–8 weeks in summer and fall, when demand peaks. Ordering over the winter is the easiest way to have equipment ready for a spring or early-summer install.

Is shipping to Montana free, and are customs brokerage and duty included?

+

Yes, on orders of US$20,000 or more (equipment subtotal, before tax), we ship free to any Montana site and cover customs brokerage. This offer is exclusive to Montana. U.S. import duty, including the 2026 tariffs on Canadian goods, is included in our U.S. prices on every order, so there is no tariff surcharge. For smaller orders we quote freight and brokerage to your site.

Will the equipment hold up to Montana winters?

+

Yes. Our equipment is proven through Alberta winters, the same freeze-thaw cycles Montana sees. Galvanized steel posts, powder-coat finishes, and stainless hardware are why steel support posts and stainless-steel hardware carry a lifetime warranty against structural failure from corrosion or deterioration. Other components carry graduated terms against structural failure from defective materials or workmanship: 20 years on stainless-steel components, 15 years on steel and aluminum components, and 10 years on plastic and vinyl-coated components.

Do you install playgrounds in Montana?

+

Yes. We install Montana projects, with our own crew or a local install partner we manage, depending on project size and location, so you get one point of contact from design through installation. We recommend professional installation for composite play structures, swings, and shade structures. Simple site amenities like benches and bike racks can also be installed by your own crew if you prefer.

Does Montana require a certified installer for playground equipment?

+

We are not aware of a Montana state law that requires a licensed or certified playground installer, but confirm with your city or county and your insurer. The U.S. CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook advises installing strictly to the manufacturer’s instructions and having a qualified person inspect the equipment before first use. A public body’s own staff are exempt from Montana contractor registration. Public supply-and-install contracts of $25,000 or more generally fall under Montana’s prevailing-wage law, while supply-only purchases do not.

What grants can help pay for a playground in Montana?

+

The main public source is the Land and Water Conservation Fund, administered by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for state, tribal, and local governments with a 50% match. Its next cycle is anticipated in summer 2027. Rural communities of 20,000 people or fewer can look at USDA Rural Development Community Facilities loans and grants. Private options include the Steele-Reese Foundation (rural Montana nonprofits), the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation, KaBOOM! (for qualifying communities), and county community foundations. We can provide quotes, drawings, and specifications for your application.

Does BDI have an office in Montana?

+

No. We do not operate a U.S. storefront or office. We serve Montana direct from Alberta, with remote design and order support, and installation by our own crew or a local install partner we manage.

Is your equipment compliant with U.S. standards, and is pricing in USD?

+

Every unit meets or exceeds ASTM F1487 and U.S. CPSC guidelines, and is IPEMA-certified through our manufacturing partner. Use the CA/US toggle at the top of the site to view budget ranges in USD. Exact prices are confirmed in USD when you request a quote, with taxes and installation quoted separately. U.S. import duty is included in every U.S. price, and on Montana orders of US$20,000 or more, freight and customs brokerage are included too.
